Spinalonga Island
Originally, Spinalonga was not an island, it was part of the island of Crete. During Venetian occupation, it was carved out of the coast for defense purposes and a fort was built there. The island has also been used as a leper colony. Spinalonga has appeared in novels, television series and a short film. It is a must excursion for those who want to combine land and sea tours. You will also visit the eastern part of Crete, Agios Nikolaos, a small town with a picturesque harbor.
Balos Lagoon & Gramvousa Peninsula
In the gulf of Kissamos, on the West of Chania, there is a complex of beautiful islets. Among them, the peninsula of Gramvoussa stands out: a wonderful landscape with a Venetian castle dominating it on one hand, blue and green shallow waters on the other. Balos offers a stunning beach with warm waters and white sand. A small boat from Kissamos will carry you there on a day trip.
